Quiet Floors
Q. The 4th and 5th floors are far from silent in the afternoons and evenings. There needs to be more signs about this.
A. John Pollitz, Director of Libraries responds...
The other day a student came to my office to let me know that floors 4 and 5, which are designated quiet floors, have been far from quiet. It reminded me that students have a wide range of needs from the Library. Most need our books, journals, databases and computers. Some need a place to work together on group projects. Some need a place to meet friends; to see and be seen. Many others are looking for a place of quiet reading, study and contemplation. McIntyre Library is here to serve the needs of all our students.
Please remember that, in response to student requests, floors 4 and 5 have been dedicated to quiet study. More and more people will need quiet areas as we come closer to the end of the semester. Be considerate of the needs of your fellow students in mind when you are making use of those floors. We have signs by the elevators reminding everyone of this policy but I am reluctant to paper the walls of the Library with signs.
